The Tap Number
Today is National Tap Dance Day. And as luck would have it, today is the recital for the Adult Tap class I joined (with my sister) back in January. What are the odds? Seriously! As we all know, I love Broadway. And more than anything, I love a show with a good tap number. Not every show has one ... but when it does, it's usually a showstopper. When I see cast members on stage in tap shoes and the beat of the score picks up, I know a good tap number is on its way, and I get itchy in excited anticipation! I can remember seeing Mary Poppins in 2009 at the New Amsterdam Theater with Luke and Piper who were 7 and 5 at the time. As the chimney sweeps started to appear from every corner of the set, I knew "Step in Time" was going to be epic. And it was! The actor who was known for making this must-see Broadway was Gavin Lee who played Bert. Lee was nominated for a Tony for his performance in this role.
